Recommended breakfast spots in New York

New Yorkers start their mornings early!
These days, more and more businesspeople are jogging in Central Park from early morning, and instead of going out for drinks at night, they’re squeezing in business meetings first thing in the morning.
That’s why New York is packed with restaurants that open early and serve exceptional breakfast, making it a fiercely competitive breakfast city! Here we’ve carefully picked out the breakfast spots you’ll want to visit when traveling to New York.

Le CouCou is a French restaurant on the first floor of the stylish boutique hotel 11Howard in SoHo.
It even ranked 85th on the restaurant awards list “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” and has also earned a Michelin star, proving it’s a seriously impressive restaurant.
The vintage-inspired interior and exposed brick make the space incredibly stylish, and the high ceilings create a sense of openness.
The restaurant was created by Stephen Starr, who runs many popular restaurants across the U.S., including The Clocktower and Upland.
The chef is Daniel Rose, known for popular Paris bistros such as Chez La Vieille. It’s popular with New Yorkers too, since they can enjoy authentic Parisian flavors without leaving New York.
Dinner time and weekend brunch are especially popular, and reservations are often hard to get.
For breakfast, the must-try is definitely the pancakes. Served on a hot skillet, they’re far more delicate and light than the ones you’d get at an American diner. The cream and blueberries pair perfectly, of course.

Lexington Candy Shop was founded in 1925! It’s a long-established diner with a history spanning three generations.
Located in the heart of the Upper East Side, just steps from 86th Street Station, this shop is deeply rooted in the neighborhood and beloved by locals—regulars order without even looking at the menu, and the staff call customers by name.
The shop is decorated with lots of photos and posters, making it feel like a scene straight out of a movie!
The 1920s American atmosphere still lingers strongly, so you’re sure to enjoy a nostalgic vibe.
The menu focuses on classic American food such as omelets, sandwiches, and hamburgers.
You’ll also find old-school diner specialties like egg creams and candy sodas!
The recommendation is the Cinnamon Walnut Raisin French Toast. It’s sweet at first glance, but it’s pure America. If you have a sweet tooth, this is one you should definitely try.

When it comes to a New Yorker’s breakfast, bagels are the answer!
Among the many bagel shops in New York, one of the most popular is Murray’s Bagels, with its stylish blue flag and brick wall.
It fits perfectly with the trendy atmosphere of Greenwich Village.
This place opens at 6:30 in the morning and has a constant line from early on.
They’re committed to making everything by hand, and while they attract plenty of tourists, it’s easy to see why they also have so many New York fans. The menu ranges from simple options to bagels loaded with plenty of fillings.
You can start your day the best possible way with a delicious bagel.
Their bagels are customized by choosing both the bagel and the filling yourself. Bagels come in many varieties, including plain, poppy seed, sesame, onion, salt, garlic, and more!
If you ask for “everything,” you’ll get a bagel topped with all of it.
The filling options are endless! Choose your favorites—cheese, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and more—to make your own one-of-a-kind bagel.
If it’s your first time, smoked salmon is the way to go! Paired with cream cheese, it’s so delicious it’ll make your cheeks fall off.
By the way, if you’re imagining Japanese bagels, these are astonishingly large, so for women, sharing one between two people may be just right.

The bakery that suddenly appeared in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and instantly became the talk of the town is Supermoon Bakehouse.
It’s the New York location of Mister Holmes Bakehouse, the shop that created the croffin (croissant + muffin), a hybrid pastry that caused a huge sensation in San Francisco.
The product display is unlike a normal bakery, with samples lined up in a row on a large pink marble table—surprising at first glance!
When you place your order with the staff, they bring it out from the back.
And above all, what makes it so popular with Instagram girls is the row of silver boxes shining in holographic colors behind it!
No matter how you frame it, it’s made for Instagram. This is a one-of-a-kind bakery that captures the hearts of girls and never lets go.
With this display, you can certainly take your time looking at the products, imagining what they taste like, and getting excited!
Croissants are the main attraction, but they also had donuts, kouign-amann, and of course croffins.
Some popular items may sell out early.
The recommendation is the strawberry croissant! It’s a popular item that’s guaranteed to sell out.
