Recommended breakfast spots in New York
New Yorkers start their mornings early!
These days, more and more businessmen are skipping late-night drinks and instead heading out for runs in Central Park from the crack of dawn or taking business meetings from the morning on.
That’s why New York is a fierce breakfast battleground, with restaurants opening early and serving outstanding breakfasts! If you’re traveling to New York, here are the breakfast spots you’ll want to visit.
Le CouCou
138 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10013
Mon-Sat: 7am-10:30am, 11:30am-2pm, 5pm-11pm
Sun: 8:00am-6:00pm
Le CouCou is a French restaurant on the first floor of the fashionable boutique hotel 11 Howard in SoHo.
This acclaimed restaurant ranked 85th in the restaurant awards “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” and has also earned a Michelin star.
The vintage-inspired interior and exposed brick give the restaurant a very stylish feel, and the high ceilings create a spacious atmosphere.
The restaurant was created by Steven Starr, who operates many popular restaurants across the U.S., including The Clocktower and Upland.
The chef is Daniel Rose, known for popular Paris bistros such as Chez La Vieille. Even while in New York, you can experience authentic Parisian flavors, which is why it’s so popular with New Yorkers too.
Especially during dinner and weekend brunch, it can be hard to get a reservation.
For breakfast, the must-try is definitely the pancakes. Served on a hot skillet, they’re far more delicate and light than what you’d find at an American diner. The combination of cream and blueberries is, of course, excellent.
Lexington Candy Shop
1226 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY
Mon-sat: 7:00am-7:00pm
Sun: 8:00am-6:00pm
Lexington Candy Shop was founded in 1925! It’s a historic, long-established diner that has been around for three generations.
Located in the heart of the Upper East Side, just steps from 86th Street subway station, this place has many loyal local customers who order without even looking at the menu and call the staff by name. It’s a beloved neighborhood institution.
Inside, the walls are covered with photos and posters, making it feel like a scene from a movie!
The spirit of 1920s America still lingers strongly, so you’re sure to enjoy a nostalgic atmosphere.
The menu centers on classic American dishes like omelets, sandwiches, and hamburgers.
You’ll also find old-school diner favorites like egg cream and candy soda!
We recommend the “Cinnamon Walnut Raisin French Toast.” It looks sweet at first glance, but it’s pure America. If you have a sweet tooth, definitely give it a try.
Murray’s Bagels
500 6th Ave, New York, NY 10011
Everyday:6:30am-6:00pm
When it comes to a New Yorker’s breakfast, bagels are the answer!
Among the many bagel shops out there, one of New York’s most popular is the stylish blue-flag-and-brick-wall bagel shop “Murray’s Bagels”
It fits right in with the chic atmosphere of Greenwich Village.
Open from 6:30 in the morning, this place always has a line from the start of the day.
They’re committed to handmade bagels, and while many tourists visit, it’s easy to see why they also have so many local fans. From simple options to bagels packed with fillings, there’s a wide variety.
A delicious bagel could be the perfect way to start your day.
You choose both the bagel and the filling yourself. Bagel varieties include plain, poppy seed, sesame, onion, salt, garlic, and more!
If you say “everything,” you’ll get a bagel topped with all the fixings.
The filling options are endless! Choose whatever you like—cheese, lettuce, tomato, cheese—and make your own bagel.
If it’s your first time, smoked salmon is the one to try! Pair it with cream cheese and it’s so good it’ll make your cheeks fall off.
By the way, if you’re imagining a Japanese-style bagel, you’ll be surprised by how big these are, so for women, sharing one between two people might be just right.
Supermoon Bakehouse
120 Rivington St. New York, NY 10002
Mon-Thu: 8:00am-1:00pm
Fri: 8:00am-11:00pm
Sat-Sun:9:00am-11:00pm
The bakery that suddenly appeared in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and instantly became the talk of the town is “Supermoon Bakehouse”
It’s the New York location of Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, the shop that created the croffin (croissant + muffin), a hybrid pastry that made a huge splash in San Francisco.
Unlike an ordinary bakery, the products are displayed in a single row of samples on a large pink marble table, which is a surprise!
When you order from the staff, they bring it out from the back.
And above all, what makes it so popular with Instagram girls are the silver boxes shining in holographic colors lined up behind the counter!
No matter how you frame it, it’s Instagram-worthy. This is a never-before-seen bakery shop that completely captures the hearts of young women and won’t let go.
With this display, you can certainly take your time looking at the items, imagine what they taste like, and feel excited!
Croissants are the main attraction, but they also had donuts, kouign-amann, and of course croffins.
Apparently, popular items can sell out early.
Our recommendation is the strawberry croissant! It’s a popular item that’s almost guaranteed to sell out.
